Our History

The Latin inscription on our coat of arms translates to “First and Best.” As for the first, we are in fact the island's first cottage colony, with one cottage almost 300 years old. And if you’re looking for seclusion, tranquility and relaxed refinement, then we are certainly the best.

 

The resort has been recognized as one of the oldest resorts of its kind anywhere, a forerunner of the cottage-style accommodations that are so popular today. Through the years many distinguished travelers have been drawn to the area’s exceptional shores and discrete service, from dignitaries to authors, entrepreneurs to privateers. While some cottages at Cambridge Beaches have been named after cherished return guests, in turn many children and companies have also been named after cottages.
